In memory of

Juan Samuel James

May 24, 1957 -  June 15, 2023

Juan Samuel James, born May 24, 1957, lived a vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and a passion for connecting with others. With his devoted family by his side, Juan passed away on June 15th, 2023, due to autoimmune complications leading to renal failure.

Juan was predeceased by his parents Agnes and Byron, and sister, Vivia. He is survived by his partner of 46 years, Josephine Roach, children Haeven (Emily), Amber (Davey), and grandson, Julius. Juan also leaves behind siblings Olga, Donald, Jacquie (Winston), Jo-Ann, Allan, and Dianne (Barry), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who held a special place in his heart.

Juan devoted over three decades of service at Old City Hall, ending his tenure as Group Leader (Court Clerk’s Office). Respected by his colleagues, Juan was a mentor to those fortunate enough to have known him. He embraced colleagues as family and shared wisdom generously. Juan retired in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, kindness, and unwavering support.

Outside the courtroom, Juan pursued his passions with enthusiasm and joy. He found happiness in sport, be it on the tennis court, football field, or coaching soccer. Music was another profound love in Juan's life. He was a talented musician, skilled at playing the bass guitar. The basement of his home would regularly echo funky baselines, captivating those who joined or listened to the jam sessions.

Known for his impeccable sense of style and his infectious positivity, Juan brightened any room he entered. He had a remarkable ability to uplift those around him, spreading laughter and joy wherever he went. Juan's warm presence and genuine care for others will continue to inspire us all to embrace life with a smile.

I still can't believe it Johnny. You came into my life in the early 90s and have been through a lot. I specifically remember the times when we were short handed in the clerks office while you were the team leader and you'd go into 111 crt alone and then you would call me in my court and ask me to take over from you in the afternoon🙄 What I will say Sir, is that we were a team and we supported each other no matter what and you were the reason for that comradry. RIP my dear friend 😢 💔 and until we meet again.

We are so saddened to hear of Juan's passing. Juan always had something positive to say and was never without a smile. We would often run into each other while walking out in the Cloisters Community. We would share the latest news of what our children are up to. He was beaming when he told me about his grandson Julius. That is how I am going to remember him, with a big smile. Sending Love and Hugs to Josie, Heaven, Amber and all his extended family. You will be greatly missed.
