In memory of

Joy Elizabeth Smalec

March 28, 1948 -  October 29, 2024

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Nana, Sister, Aunt and friend, Joy Elizabeth Smalec (nee Hewson).

Joy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Patrick; her grandchildren Brogan (Angelina) and Lylah; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Lynn Hewson; her nieces, Lindsay (Dean) Lefebvre and Lacey (Chris) Hewson and their children; and her dear friend, Suzanne Greeves.

She is predeceased by her Father, Frederick Hewson (2002); her Mother, Doris Setterfield (2009); her brother Perry Hewson (1985); and her granddaughter, Faith Ali (2008).

After leaving school at 16 years old, Joy became a lifelong employee of Nortel where she met many friends and filled their days with her quick wit and humour.

Joy loved the many cats she had over the years. Misty, Maggie, Emily, Tori and Caramel were her "furbabies" and lucky to have such a wonderful owner.

She also loved shopping. You could always find her at Zellers or Walmart having a coffee and buying things she didn't need.

Joy's greatest passion was her daughter and grandchildren. They filled her life with happiness and laughter. She would always say they were her greatest gift.

Many thanks to the staff a Trinity Village in Kitchener, where Joy resided for the past 7 years, for making her days brighter.

She is loved dearly and will never be forgotten.

"Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings."
