Joslyn (Jolly) Melbourne Reid

Joslyn Melbourne Reid (Jolly), 89, of Ajax, Ontario, passed away on November 11, 2023, peacefully at home with his loved ones after a long seven-year battle with dementia.

Joslyn, 7th of 9 children, was born on May 6, 1934, to Jemima Virginia Watson & Uyton Reid in Guys Hill, Saint Catherine, Jamaica. Joslyn migrated to Canada with his first wife in October of 1973. He was later remarried to Rosel Heath in April 1997.

Joslyn was a wonderful and devoted father, grandfather, husband, friend, and a kind and thoughtful soul. He will be missed and remembered for the many lives he touched. Jolly was a lady’s man, a smooth operator, who loved Baseball (Toronto Blue Jays), Cricket, Wrestling, The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Young & the Restless (Y&R). He was an excellent cook and made the best sweet potato and cornmeal pudding.

In addition to his parents, Joslyn was predeceased by his sister Amy-Rose, brothers Winston, Iman, Lasell, Quaker, Carlos, Arthur and his wife, Rosel Heath-Reid.

He is survived by his beloved brother, Lloyd Reid. He leaves behind daughters Gloria Reid-Cole and Patrinia Reid-Fletcher, son Horace Melbourne Reid JR and stepson Rondon Heath, sons-in-law Gilroy Fletcher and Carl Cole, as well as one grandson, Kyrin Reid Cybenko and five granddaughters Ashneil Hinds (Toni), Aaliyah-Mae Hinds, Cheyenne Hinds, Halayna Reid, Shannon Cole, two great grandchildren Elias and Aylah Belgrave, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centres, Address: 1057 Brock Road, Pickering ON L1W 3T7.

On Saturday, December 2nd, 2023 there will be a Visitation is from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and a Service at 10:15 AM at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church (APC), 1920 Notion Rd, Pickering, ON L1V 2G3.


The final resting place will be Duffin Meadows Cemetery, 2505 Brock Road North, Pickering, Ontario.

Mr. Reid whom I've come to know in his late years because of his daughter Patrina, Mr. Reid was a very lovely, kind and friendly elderly gentleman. He was very quiet yet appreciative of the small gesture of kindnesses given to him. RIP Mr. Reid.
