In memory of

Josephine Ruth "Josie" Engel

December 5, 1936 -  March 1, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Josephine Engel on March 1, 2021 in Toronto at age 84 after her courageous fight with cancer. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Lawrence and Mary, and Vanessa and Craig, grandmother to Lauren, Kathryn, Amanda, Steven, and Christopher.

Our mother faced her life's journey with boundless love, humour and grit. She immigrated to Canada from Germany as a young woman, quickly learned English and took up a rewarding career as a dental nurse and receptionist becoming friends with everyone she met. She worked with the Forest Hill Skating Association, volunteered at North Preparatory School for after school activities, and actively engaged within her neighborhood and community later in her life. Remembered for her steel will, love of nature and animals, and her selfless compassion to help others, she will be fondly remembered by family and friends.

A celebration of her life, when all friends and family can attend, will be held this summer. A notice of her reception will be distributed closer to the date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Toronto Humane Society.
