Josephine Doreen Pelzer
November 11, 1943 - February 26, 2022

In loving memory of Josephine (Joy) Pelzer, who passed peacefully into the welcoming arms of Jesus at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the age of 78 years.

Joy was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan in 1943 and in 1961 moved to Ontario with her husband Willie to find new opportunities. Having launched Sunny Crunch Foods in 1970, the two worked tirelessly to build the successful company that their son Richard heads up today. In the early 70’s they worked day and night from 8 AM until 2 AM baking products in eight functional ovens located in their family home and packaging everything for delivery the next day. Reinvesting every penny back into the business, Joy also took evening jobs cleaning banks and offices to make extra money.

Joy was extremely loving, kind-hearted and generous and she loved to travel on vacations with family and close friends. She was an excellent chef, creator of fine food, and she thoroughly enjoyed planning elaborate, delicious meals making the happiest of memories with loved ones.

Joy will be lovingly remembered by her devoted son Richard, adored daughter-in-law Lynn and cherished granddaughters Chloe and Sydney; brother Steve (Rose) Sluz of Creston, B.C.; sisters Jean Dixon of Grenfell, SK, and Florence Hatt of Creston, B.C.; brother-in-law John Kerekes of Abbotsford, B.C.; sisters-in-law Lillian Sluz of Cranbrook, B.C. and Marilyn Sluz of Grenfell, SK as well as many nieces and nephews. Joy was predeceased by her husband Willie of 53 years of marriage, parents Peter and Edna Sluz, sister Marie Kerekes, brothers Marion, Irvin and James Sluz, and brothers-in-law Norman Dixon, and Norman Hatt.

A private memorial service to celebrate the life of Joy Pelzer will be held on the 4th of March, 2022 at the Elgin Mills Funeral Centre with Pastor Gary Langerud officiating. Interment will follow in the Elgin Mills Cemetery in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Due to the current Covid-19 gathering restrictions, the funeral service will be by invitation only. Please take a moment to sign the guest book for the family. Your love and support during these difficult times are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

To the Pelzer family; In several meetings with Joy and several conversations, I always found Joy to be a strong woman of grace. I heard about how her business was started in her kitchen and grew to become an amazing, effective and influential presence in the community.
May God's grace rest upon those who mourn her passing from this life to the next. Her labors are complete. Her rest is now pure. Her prayers do follow you. My deepest condolences on your loss.

I will see you Friday. Thank you for having me on the invitee list! I am so sad and shocked she's gone! I know where she's gone so I'm totally happy with that but my heart is with Richard now and I can't imagine how hard this would be for him. She loved Richard so much! I pray for Richard and Lynn and their dear children that they will feel God's hand over them through this very hard time! Love you, Richard and Lynn! We will all get through this together! XXX000
