In memory of

Josephine Chung

August 18, 1927 -  February 23, 2021

JOSEPHINE CHUNG Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, friend, Josephine (nee Lee) passed away peacefully on February 23, 2021, surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by children Terrence (Simone), Brian (Belinda), Anita (Desmond Lee), Colin (Karen), 10 grandchildren (George Fong-Yee (Amy), Lisa Fong-Yee Ho (Jon), Roderick Fong-Yee, Jr.; Diana Chung Telan (Mike), Crystal Chung; Adrian Chung, Camille Chung; Shaun Chung, Katie Chung, Jared Chung), and six great-grandchildren (Isabella and Veronica Ho; Adeline and Lucille Fong-Yee; Jonah and Damian Telan). Josephine has gone to join her adoring husband Donald Wilberforce Chung in eternal peace. Predeceased by son-in-law, Roderick Fong-Yee, and daughter-in-law, Carol Chung.

Born in Colon, Panama, Josephine spent her formative years in China, before returning to Panama as a young woman. Working in her father’s business, she was determined to go into business for herself. This would come to fruition after she was wooed by Donald Chung of Morant Bay, Jamaica. They had met seven years earlier on a slow boat from China, where Donald declared, “She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.” Together, they built a successful haberdashery business in Jamaica before immigrating to Canada in 1976. While in Jamaica, Josephine gave birth to their four children and learned to speak English fluently, adding a fourth language to her Hakka, Cantonese and Spanish language skills. She was a sharp businesswoman, an instinctive cook, a stylish dresser, and a devoted mother and wife. In Canada, she grew a beautiful garden of peonies and roses, participated in Tai Chi daily, played Mah Jong with friends at Tsung Tsin, cooked Chinese banquets for family, and enjoyed socializing through dim sum, casino outings and community events. Above all, her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of their individual accomplishments and loved each fully and completely.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tsung Tsin Association of Ontario (www.tsungtsinontario.ca), 3880 Midland Avenue, Toronto, ON, M1V 5K4. If donating by Paypal or e-transfer, send to Shirley Chung at tsungtsinontario.exec@gmail.com.

With Deepest Condolences to Colin and Karen and the Chung family. She was a beautiful, kind spirit. But her legacy lives on in all of you. Colin, I didn’t know her as well as you do, but I do know she was lucky to have for for a son. And she knew it too. RIP.

Dear Colin, Karen, Terence, Simone, Shaun, Katie, Jared and all the family, words can not express our deep sorrow at the news of your loss. All our wishes and prayers were for her to return home to you. Take comfort that your dad was waiting to greet her---the most beautiful girl in the world. She is with your dad now. We hope your grief will soon be replaced by the memories of your mom and how she loved those family get-to-gethers. Loving you with all our hearts, Tina, Aneesh and Mina
