Joseph "Joph" Glaister
November 27, 1933 - October 28, 2016.

Passed away peacefully at home at the age of 82. Joseph Tertius Drysdale Glaister was born at home in Glasgow, Scotland, son of Dr. Joe Glaister and Nan (Thornley) Glaister and brother of Ann Scott and Robert Glaister.

Beloved husband for 50 years of Pamela (Steed) Glaister. Loving father to Ian, Cathy, and Jean and father-in-law of Shawn Steil. Proud Grandad of Su Mei and Theo.

A varied and fulfilling career in psychiatry began at the Clarke Institute (now CAMH) before the opening of a private practice in Toronto. He was an active consultant for 30 years to Nodin Counselling Service, based in Sioux Lookout. In 1999 he was appointed to the Consent and Capacity Board where he served as a member until 2013.

Joph’s interests and pursuits were wide-ranging as he found meaning in everything and everyone he encountered. He will be dearly missed.

There will be a private memorial service.

Messages of condolences and memories of Joph are welcomed by the family.

Though I am his daughter's friend, Joph took every opportunity to get to know me whenever I visited, asking questions and listening carefully. He and Pam made me feel at ease and at home in their home. I remember his curiosity, his kindness and his laugh.

We are very saddened to hear of the death of dear Dr. Glaister and we send our heartfelt condolences to the family at this difficult time. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

“JG”, as he was affectionately known by our family, was an extraordinary human being. Not only was he a gifted practitioner of the medical arts, but he also possessed those rare qualities of the true gentleman - dignity, grace, wisdom, compassion plus a deep and enduring humanity. His eternal spirit for adventure and knowledge seeking was always a great inspiration. We always enjoyed hearing of his many globetrotting experiences. I was personally touched and very grateful that he took time from his busy schedule to attend some of my last concerts.

Doctor Glaister will be sorely missed by all of us whose lives were fortunate enough to have been influenced by him.

Pam and all!
We were so sorry to hear even though Mum and Dad had kept us all up to date!
I love this picture and a wonderful obituary.
He will be missed.! I would love to attend the memorial as would Matt and Barb (fiancé). Unfortunately Glenn will not be available.
If this is possible, please let us know.
Once again, our thoughts are with you all.
Susan and Glenn
