In memory of

Joseph Emanuel Hinds

May 15, 1926 -  May 25, 2019

Joseph Emanuel Hinds died May 25, 2019, at Scarborough General Hospital, with his family by his side. He was 93.

He was born on May 15, 1926 in Georgetown, Guyana, but grew up in Sisters' Village, West Bank Demerara. He remained there until 1987, when he migrated to Canada.

He met his wife, Sylvie, 70 years ago, when she was 20 and he was 23. They were later united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with 8 children.

Mr. Hinds attended public school in Wales, West Bank Demerara and later attended Government Technical Institute in Georgetown. There he engaged in electrical and electronic studies and later became a Certified Electrician. He honed his electrical skills by pursuing courses offered by the City and Guilds of London, where he excelled.

Joseph's favorite pastime was listening to Classical and Tenor music.

He was a renowned electrician, who was known for the excellent quality of work he produced. Joseph worked for more than 18 years at Wales Sugar Estate as a supervisor in the Electrical Department. He left the estate and joined the Friendship Marine Company in a supervisory capacity, where he worked for several years until migration.

Upon his arrival in Canada, he gained employment at the Sheraton Hotel in Downtown, Toronto, where he worked as a Certified Electrician from 1988 to 2001. He was a dedicated worker that was awarded 'worker of the year' for each year he was employed at the Hotel.

Mr. Hinds is survived by his wife, 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, other relatives and many devoted friends. He was preceded by his daughter Denise, son Charles, grandsons Troy and Chad.
