John Nelson Tollett
June 6, 1926 - February 21, 2014
John Nelson Tollett - June 6th, 1926 - February 21st, 2014. (Please listen to the Music)
John was the beloved husband of Tillie (Muriel Matilda Fanning). He met Tillie when he was 18 years old while he was coaching the baseball team that Tillie pitched for so John made a pitch for Tillie and they married on June 19th, 1948. They shared a deep, abiding love for more than sixty-six years.
John will reunite with his Father and Mother, Albert and Carrie, his sister Anne and brothers Albert, Jim and William (Bill) in an eternity of love.
John will be greatly missed by his four loving children. John William (Lee), Ronald Wayne Albert (Susan), Cheryl Denise (Mike) and Carol Dorothy (Mark) will cherish every moment they had with their father and he will live forever in their hearts and memories. These four children have given John eight grandchildren: Christopher, David, Brian, Jacob, Randi, Sean, Brandon and Brooke and five great grandchildren: Matthew, Connor, Kaitlyn, Jaxen and Lukah. John will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews near and far.
John was devoted to his wife and children. He was hard working and was well-respected in the printing industry for over 40 years. He made sure there was always food on the table and a roof over their heads. John was a great cook and his Sunday roast beef dinners, complete with Yorkshire pudding, were wonderful family times. He always made sure that kids made it to hockey practice, the roller rink or music lessons on time even if that meant rising at five o'clock in the morning. Often there was time and a couple of dollars for the racetrack and he always picked the winners or else he kept the wrong picks to himself.
John loved spending summers at the cottage on Belmont Lake teaching the kids how to swim, having fires and singing songs while roasting marshmallows and always with his dogs by his side. He also loved to go fishing, play horseshoes and darts and he was unbeatable at cribbage and euchre.
John was a consummate storyteller and his stories most often centered around his family history tracing his ancestors all the way back to England. He was also a prankster with a tremendous sense of humour as his wife and kids can attest.
John loved to watch his Blue Jays and the Leafs, and cherished his autographed picture of Johnny Bower. He never missed a Sunday night Lawrence Welk show and loved to listen to the music of all the old crooners.
John was a terrific handy man and would take on any remodeling project or repair. His handiwork could be seen everywhere in their home and at the cottage. No job was too big nor too small and it had to be done right.
Dear John we knew you as a gracious person, lovable, heart full, caring and jolly. You were always there for us. You were a wonderful husband, father and friend. We wish you peace and in our hearts we know we’ll meet again.
