In memory of

John Thomas McGrath

July 13, 1956 -  January 14, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of John McGrath announce his peaceful passing on Friday, January 14th, 2022 at the age of 65 years. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 18 years, Adele; sisters Kathy and Donna; step-son Mark; nieces Jamie and Carolyn; nephews Steve, Devin, and John Paul; life-long best friends John and Danny; and his friends and colleagues that he considered family at Quality Allied Elevator, where he worked for the better part of his latter years.

John took comfort and happiness in the simplest things in life: when he is not working he could be found at home with a beer in hand, enjoying either one of his passions: hockey, wrestling, or boxing. He loved fishing and would make yearly trips to the lake with his best buddies, no matter that they actually did not bring any of the fish home (he would catch-and-release); the thing he loved most was the chance to just lay back and enjoy life surrounded by the people he loved and cared for the most. An avid Elvis Presley fan, milestones and celebrations in life would be amiss if he did not enthusiastically sing and dance to one (or many!) of his songs.

He met the love of his life, Adele, in 2001 while he was working at an auto repair shop. It was love-at-first sight: after being introduced, he relentlessly pursued her until she eventually succumbed to his charms and persistence. They were married three years later, and while they didn't have any offspring, they supported each other and was the other's strength, which made life's struggles easier to bear, and its joys more rewarding.

We take comfort in knowing that John is now at peace, surrounded by light.

Visitation will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road in Scarborough, on Friday, January 28th, 2022 from 9AM - 11AM, with service beginning at 11AM on the same day. His remains will be brought back to his home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made instead to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Due to COVID-19, only a limited number of people can be accommodated for both the visitation and service, to maintain physical distancing requirements. We ask that friends and family RSVP by sending an email with their name and contact number (for contact tracing) to mark.alagdon@yahoo.com.

I will miss you uncle Johnny. I will never forget your love of Elvis and your dance moves at the company Christmas parties! For a shy guy, you sure could move. You were always so sweet when offering me half of your lunch and you always included me when you picked up lunch at the office. I remember when I caught my first fish (sunfish lol) you were so proud of me that you cooked it for us to eat for dinner that night. I hope you are reunited up in Heaven with my dad, Rosie, your parents, Teala and Priscilla. Until I see you again, may you rest in paradise.
