In memory of

John Miseresky

January 31, 1951 -  March 25, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father John Miseresky on Friday, March 25th, 2022 at the age of 71.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbours.

He was a man of many talents; scuba diving, fishing, cross country skiing, hiking, photography, cooking and carpentry.

He leaves behind a wealth of warm memories and will continue to live on in our hearts.

I knew John for just over a decade. We were drawn together by our love of Altona Forest and nature. We spent many hours wandering trails, bird and coyote watching, photographing wildlife, protecting the conservation area we loved, enjoying a chat over glass or wine (or 3) or sharing our love of vodka cocktails. John made fantastic crème brûlée and torched it to perfection, did delicious homemade lox, and loved a good culinary find… all in the serendipitous chaos that was his kitchen. We also shared a love of woodworker treasures… I’m so glad I gave him one as a goodbye gift. I’m sad he was not able to take me up on a post-Covid visit to BC. John was a wonderful friend and a gentleman, and will be deeply missed. NG

John and Mary Helen visited us for a couple of days n the summer of 2018. He was such a likeable, interesting and intelligent man, with many interests that he shared, always with a light touch. He talked and he listened. We very much enjoyed spending the time with him. We are sorry for your loss and sorry that we did not get to meet him again.

I met John, shortly after he moved Pickering, while he was walking in Altona Forest, which would become one of his favourite places. He soon joined the Altona Forest stewardship committee and became co-chair with me on this committee. During his years on the committee, he participated in planning and leading hikes, co-ordinating special days, like Altona Forest cleanup Saturday and the forest’s participation in Ontario Blooms, and helping to build the boardwalks. He and I spent some Saturdays representing Altona Forest in City of Pickering Days, such as Pickering Volunteer Fair and Sustainable Pickering. He also participated in the Altona Forest Steward Committee entry for a $10,000 grant to beautify part of Pickering connected to Altona Forest. After a couple years of trying, we won this competition, which created a wonderful entrance to Altona Forest on Autumn Cres. Jan and I participate in weekly hiking in the Rouge National Urban Park and John joined our regular Wednesday hiking group and continued hiking with us for many years. We also paddled the Rouge and Amos Ponds with him on a number of occasions. John had many interests including scuba diving, and he was a great cook. He joined my wife Jan and I on weekly cooking classes the Loblaw’s “What’s for Dinner”. John was a member of the Pickering naturalists with us and was one of the most consistent attendees at all the outings offered by this group. We shared many enjoyable evenings at Herongate Barn Dinner Theatre with him. John loved model trains and we got to go with him to many model train clubs’ yearly presentations. In all these activities, John and I would share the driving, alternating the duty each week, with often two and, sometimes three, destinations. I am so glad that Jan and I got to share in many of John’s interests and activities. We miss him very, very much.
