In memory of

John McPhee

November 29, 1932 -  February 28, 2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of John McPhee of Ajax, Ontario on February 28th, 2023. Beloved and adoring husband of Eleanor (nee Bevington) for over 67 years; loving father of Karen Boyle (Steve) and Kimberley McPhee; proud grandfather of Karina, Kaela (Karl), Kyle, and Karyssa; devoted great-grandfather of Kianna, Avril, Lyric, Kiley, and Kaeden.

John reached his milestone 90th birthday in November 2022. He lived a life dedicated to family and hard work having started his first job at age 13 at General Steelwares in Toronto. He loved the outdoors, was a King Scout and scout leader. Skiing at Blue Mountain was dear to his heart. Eventually, he became a tool and die maker by trade but he was a self-taught engineer who could design and build practically anything with steel. His greatest accomplishment was running his own window and door manufacturing company where he was admired by his employees and had many colleagues and good friends over the years. Later in life, he worked at OPG designing and building tools.

His proudest moments however, involved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as he participated in celebrating their accomplishments and talents. People were drawn to him wherever he went and he was well known to the neighborhood children and dogs who regularly would not pass the house without insisting to stop in for a cookie. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, neighbors, and cats, Frosty and Izzy.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff and residents of Lakeridge Gardens LTC for their care, compassion and friendship. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 8th at the Simple Alternative, 1057 Brock Road, Pickering - Visitation 11 a.m. and Service 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made in John's honor to Sick Kids.

Deepest condolences. I was fortunate enough to have met John back in the 80’s while quietly absorbing the immense knowledge shared between he and my father Bill during many a brainstorming session.
I will continue to have the utmost respect for, arguably, a pioneer and leader in the industry.
John was kind enough to stop by a few times after Dad passed in 2015 and was always welcome here.
I’m confident they are in deep discussions now engineering a better way to build something!

Certainly one of a kind, well respected and fondly remembered.
