In memory of

John Kubicz

September 10, 1943 -  June 9, 2021

Founder of Concord Glazing Systems Inc.

A great husband, father, friend, mentor, and businessman, John Kubicz, concluded his full and wonderful life on June 9, 2021.

Life with John was never a dull moment. John was the love of his wife’s life, Cynthia McLeod. Cynthia met the wrong ‘John’ on a blind date which they always laughed about. It must have been fate as their loving relationship lasted 42 years. John found joy in the simple things; car rides with Cynthia, grabbing coffee, listening to nature, and counting how many deer he saw up at the cottage. He loved music and dance, would have Elvis on repeat, loved the theater, and a good meal out, even if it was just a Polish sausage from a street cart.

Supportive, proud and dedicated father of Mark and Brittany Kubicz, who he loved unconditionally. His grandchildren Kyle and Ethan Kubicz were greatly loved. Brother-in-law of Steve (Jeanne) McLeod and Linda (Les) Bauman, and the late Gayle Kay. Uncle of Camilla Wells, Victor Jr. Kubicz, Adam (Jaclyn) McLeod, Ryan (Tricia) McLeod, Devin (Kim) McLeod, Doug (Jennifer) Bauman, Gary (Emma) Bauman and much-loved cousin of Susan (Jim) Elie. John was a Great Uncle to Peyton, Lincoln, Callum, Fiona, Isla, Owen, Blake, Gavin, Grace, Camden, Annabelle, Daniel, Ella, Marc, Cathy, and Nicole. John was predeceased by his hard-working mother, Zofia, father, Walter, and brother, Victor Kubicz. John will be greatly missed by other relatives and friends.

Born during WWII, John immigrated to Canada from Poland, on a ship with his family. He was a true model of the immigrant story and an entrepreneur from a young age.

A leader in the glazing industry for over 30 years, John was the Founder of the successful company, Concord Glazing Systems Inc. completing projects across North America, which he sold in 2016 (formerly Kub Glass & Mirror). He exemplified values of hard work, perseverance, and loyalty. His tenacious go-getting spirit created opportunities and business deals that provided a wonderful life for his family. His employees were considered family, nicknaming him ‘Chief’.

John took great joy in his family and went on many adventures to Mexico, USA, and Europe. John and Cynthia were the best travel partners, travelling throughout the world together. He was Mark’s biggest baseball, soccer and hockey cheerleader; coaching him when he was young, attending every game, and supporting Mark as he made it to the St. Mike’s OHL hockey team. John loved watching his little princess, Britt, play soccer and dance, and helped her as she built her first company. He was a cat dad to his fur baby Dakota and loved his deceased horse, Shadow.

John enjoyed being active. He grew up playing soccer, basketball, track and field, football and won Athlete of the Year twice in school. He went to Gordon Graydon Memorial High School where he played on the football team, to which he continued friendships with the players and attended all the reunions. John completed the Chicago Marathon and won the Alberta Open C Division Squash Championship. He was also invited to try out for the Calgary Stampeders twice when he lived in Alberta (a place he loved).

As a family he spent many years at the cottage on Balsam Lake, enjoying time spent with family and friends. He had a soft heart and was an unbelievably generous man to everyone who crossed his path. John loved the water, whether sailing, driving his boat, or swimming (no matter how cold the water was). He was a master BBQer, garage-sale hunter, and took joy in finding a good deal!

More than anything he cherished being in close company with those who meant so much to him; including his many great friends, new and old. His confidence and cheerful nature lit up the room. He didn’t care what people thought of him and was uniquely one of a kind. His “Polish” sense of humour will be missed. He showed us all how to live life fully, not to stress the small stuff, and always reminded the family to keep a PMA “positive mental attitude.”

John will be cremated and an outdoor service will be held at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery (375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, ON) on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Due to the COVID-9 restrictions that are in place the service will be by invitation only. We appreciate your understanding.

Robert (old schoolmate and friend)

Entered June 17, 2021 from Bright, Ontario

John and I had been friends since grade nine at Gordon Graydon. Although we saw each other infrequently, when we did it was always great fun to "catch up".

We were both members of the french horn section in the school band, and teammates on championship football and track teams.

He was a great teammate, loyal and generous. Farewell Kubz!
