In memory of

John Joseph L'Estrange

August 29, 1923 -  June 30, 2016

It is with great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of John Joseph L’Estrange in his 93rd year, at his home, his favourite place, in Toronto on Thursday, June 30, 2016. He was born to Patrick and Margaret L’Estrange on August 29, 1923 in Dublin, Ireland, the fourth of 14 siblings. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Una (nee Billings) and twelve siblings. He is survived by his brother, Paschal.

Greatly missed and forever loved by Linda, Rhonda and Bill, John and Nancy and grandchildren Maddison and Mckenna. Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family and very dear friends in Canada, Ireland, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. The family would also like to thank Maylene, his kind and compassionate caregiver.

Wondering what John was doing for fish-Friday on July 1? He was most likely holding court, displaying his sharp wit, as was always the case. God bless. Slán leat.

There will be a private visitation for family from 10:00 am – 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 immediately followed by a private interment at PINE HILLS CEMETERY AND VISITATION CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, ON, M1K-1R1 (north of St. Clair Ave E, 416-267-8229).

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm at 15 Eastwood Avenue, Toronto, ON, M1N-3G9 (John and Nancy’s residence).

I really enjoyed spending time with John whenever he was out in Australia visiting Rhonda and Bill. It was always interesting listening to his views on life in general and I will miss his tilting accent. I think of him now cooking his steak and potatoes early in the evening when he liked to eat.
He will be sadly missed.

Our sincere condolences to you Linda, Rhonda and Bill, John and Nancy, Maddison and Mckenna. We knew your father as a kind, smart and hard-working man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was always concerned with how your friends and family were faring and was ready for a discussion about the latest world events. He was a good man. And it was obvious how he loved you all. There is nothing he wouldn't do for his friends and family. We will never forget his kindness and deep goodness. We will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
