In memory of

John Gunars Aditajs

September 12, 1935 -  September 16, 2021

John Gunārs Adītājs
Peacefully, surrounded by family, John passed away on September 16, 2021 at the age of 86.

Born in Riga, Latvia in 1935 , he left Latvia with his mother Anna, and escaped to Germany where they were reunited with his father Voldemārs. He emigrated to Canada in 1950, first living in Montreal and then moving to Toronto where he met and married his beautiful sweetheart Maija in 1956. Daughter Laila arrived a year later, followed by son Johnny 3 years later.

John began his working career with Gage Institute as an Xray technician but saw an opportunity when he became a pharmaceutical rep with Texcan Pharmaceuticals. In 1967 he jumped on board with A.H. Robins where he stayed for 35 years and eventually became known as Mr. Advil.

John was a loving family man who enjoyed the outdoors with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to travel and had a great sense of adventure. His favourite sport was golf, golf, golf. And he's never had a speeding ticket. His love of life was expressed by his sense of humour and his ability to laugh. Always a twinkle in his eye, he was a great man to be around.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Maija, daughter Laila and husband Ron, son Johnny and wife Sharon, grandchildren Carlye and husband Craig, Mike, Lexi, Chase and great-grandchildren Colton and Rosie.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre or St. John's Ev. Lutheran Latvian Church.

The funeral service will be live streamed starting at 1:45pm on Tuesday, September 21st. The link will appear above the obituary during that time. The recording will be available to download through the media tab. For further assistance, please contact our funeral home directly. Unfortunately, because of COVID restrictions the service will be private, but all are invited to give condolences to the family at a visitation. Information is located below. Thank you!
