In memory of

John Douglas Thompson

March 6, 1932 -  February 2, 2020

Dr. John Douglas Thompson DC. With great sadness we announce the passing of Jack Thompson peacefully on February 2nd, 2020, surrounded by the love of his family. Jack was born March 6th, 1932, he grew up in North Toronto and spent time on Ward’s Island. Beloved husband to his wife, Irene. Loving father to Geoff (Val), Beth (Simon), Lynda, Lisa (Dan). Cherished Papa to Robbie (Kristen), Dane (Brittany), Johnny, Carlye (Jake), Dylan, Erin, Steven and Ryan. Great-Papa to Connor and Taylor. Fondly remembered by his friends and extended family in Ireland and around the world.

Jack enjoyed a long career as a chiropractor in Agincourt. He dedicated his life to helping people in need. In his retirement he and Irene enjoyed their trips to Ireland and Florida. His passion was his family. Jack was brave, inspiring and quite a character with a quick smile and an infectious laugh. He went to all the kids’ activities and sporting events. He would cheer them on and congratulate them on their efforts. “A loss isn’t a loss if you’ve learned something – it’s a lesson.” he would say with a smile. Jack loved everything hockey, as a successful junior player and then as a coach. He remembered the boys that played for him and enjoyed telling the stories of their successes. He also loved tennis or anything that could keep him moving. His bright spirit, thoughtfulness and kindness will always be remembered.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday March 29th, 2020, from 1pm to 4pm at Pickering College in Newmarket (16945 Bayview Ave.), Ontario. Private Family Internment will be held March 7th, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations to support youth sports through the Jumpstart Program or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

My deepest condolences to the Thompson family. I vividly recall the many summers shared with the Winstonette families at the Diachun's farm or winters at Albion Hills. Whether sitting around listening to stories, dancing in the barn or singing around the piano, Dr. Thompson was there and his laugh couldn't be missed. I hope you find peace, strength and comfort from your friends and family at this difficult time.

Jack always had a twinkle in his eye when he was talking to you. There was always something going on in his mind and you waited for the punchline, the windup, or that nugget of wisdom. A highly intelligent, with forthright views, I’m only sorry I didn’t get to spend more time in his company, getting to know him better and learning from him.
He will be missed by so many - Irene, Beth, Lynda, Lisa and the children. His memory will never fade.
Rest easy Jack.
