John Christopher D'Souza

June 12, 1937 -  January 12, 2021

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of John Christopher D’Souza, 83, on Tuesday January 12th, 2021 at Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa, Ontario.

He was born on June 12th, 1937 in Tanga, Tanzania and was the second child of four siblings. He studied at Xavier College and the Davas College of Commerce and was also known to be an avid sportsman who excelled in field hockey and soccer.

He worked as a customs officer at the East African High Commission Department and then worked as a shipping manager for Mitchell Cotts & Co. Ltd.

John immigrated to Canada in 1974 in the hopes of building a better life for his family. He had a long and successful career at the Bank of Nova Scotia from which he retired in 2002. He was a self-taught handyman who enjoyed keeping himself busy with challenging home projects that came his way. John was known to be a very patient, gentle, and mild-mannered person. His lasting legacy was his unwavering love and devotion to his family.

John was a beloved husband to Dora, a cherished father to Rachel (Ron) and Ralten (Tang), and a loving grandfather to Sarah and Sabrina. He is also survived by his siblings, Francis (Dixie), Loretta (Silu) and Joyce. Fondly remembered with a great deal of love and respect by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and his nephews and nieces.

He will be greatly missed and will remain forever in our hearts. We thank God for the gift of his life.
