John Cameron Warren
July 15, 1947 - February 27, 2016
John Cameron Warren, 68, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 27, 2016, after an almost yearlong battle with cancer. His wife, Marie, was at his side.
Creative and always curious, John was born in Toronto on July 15,1947, the only son of Eileen Warren and the late Donald Warren. In his younger years he was a student at North Toronto Collegiate Institute and attended LaSalle College in Montreal. Play was a big part of what he did back then… on the ski hills or strumming his guitar, spending many an hour with his friends in Toronto and Indian Point.
Social justice was his passion, and John’s true colours shone through when he became aware of any of his fellow man’s injustices, which he would fight without hesitation through his art, songs and poems. A creative spirit through and through, John enjoyed writing, playing guitar and creating beautiful pieces out of found copper. He felt deeply and sweetly, and often with irreverence and a smirk. As he once said, “Keep in mind that everything is an illusion and relative as a fingerprint and thus life is what you make it!”
John will be deeply missed by his wife of 35 years, Marie Van Schie, his sisters Karen Hutton and Susan Warren, brothers-in-law Bob and Pat, nieces Kerry and Sarah (Trey), nephews Dan, Don, Fitz and Warren, and his great-niece & -nephews Elena, Tosh, Greyson and Witt.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made to The Toronto Grace Health Centre, which you can do online at www.torontograce.org.
Thank you to Chaplin Sharon and the kind staff at the Toronto Grace Palliative Unit who cared for John and his family over the past eight months. We would also like to thank all of the family and friends who visited John this past year, including Barbie, who spent many hours on the road to visit, and John Ardagh, a close childhood friend, who walked with John during this journey and through his crossing-over ~ with love.
We will celebrate John's life at an informal gathering on Saturday March 12th from 2 to 4:30 pm at the Isabel & Arthur Meighen Manor, 155 Millwood Road (one block north of Davisville, east of Yonge). We invite those who would like to, to share a story remembering John at 3pm.
