Johanna Kienecker
December 29, 1924 - May 3, 2016
Johanna (Hankie) is remembered with love and gratitude by her 3 children Robert (Cheryl), Joyce (Greg) and Michael. Dear grandmother, beloved friend to so many. Her passing was peaceful and we are blessed to know that she is now in the arms of the divine.
She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile. She had and kept so many friends through out her life, maintaining connections through war and dislocation, emigration and adventure. Her devotion and delight in her friends was her constant focus.
Hankie was born in Surabaya, Indonesia to Dutch parents. She was the youngest of 4 children. After World War ll she and her mother and sister returned to the Netherlands. There she achieved a certificate in nursing and took off with sister Willy for a high spirited adventure of hitchhiking Europe with the help of their nursing education to find employment along the way. To the end of her days, she reminisced fondly about her travels.
After marriage in 1958, she and her husband Pieter Nobel, emigrated to Canada. Once again her nursing training opened doors to years of both hard work and blessings.
Hankie is predeceased by brother Bert and sister Willy. She leaves her sister Jettie, in Amsterdam.
A very special thank you to the staff of Faith Manor at Holland Christian Homes who cared for her patiently and with love, these last 6 years of her life.
