In memory of

Jose Jaime Morales Villagran

October 9, 1927 -  January 26, 2022

José Jaime was born in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala to his father Alberto Morales Leiva and mother Elena Villagran de Morales. The oldest of seven children, Jose didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. Shortly after his mother passed away, he was left to care for his brother and sisters.

As a teenager, he apprenticed with a shoemaker in Quetzaltenango. In his late teens, he and siblings moved to Guatemala City. There, he perfected his shoemaking craft and also met Juana Cifuentes, who would become his wife and life partner of seventy-five years. Together they started a family of ten children, four sons and six daughters.

His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him to move to Toronto, Canada in 1980 with one of his elder sons. When not at work, José always made time for his family including his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid reader, always keen to learn new things. He also loved watching movies as well as exploring downtown Toronto on his days off.

In addition to his life partner Juana and eight children, José is survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
