In memory of

Joan Marie Wilson

September 5, 1923 -  January 11, 2019

Passed away peacefully with family at her side at North York General Hsopital in Toronto. Loving wife of Harold; Mother of Douglas (Deborra), Grandmother of Jennifer Raponi (Derek) and Derek Wilson (Jennica); Great Grandmother of Cedric, Kaitlyn and Samantha Wilson and Owynn and Austen Raponi. Joan was born in Toronto to Rachel (Lee) and Arthur Husband and grew up during the depression and World War 2. Joan excelled in swimming and diving and she won several awards as a child. Joan went to Normal Model Elementary School and then to Jarvis Collegiate. In 1942, Joan started a lifelong friendship with Ruth Sheridan, Betty Shaw, Betty-Ann Ferguson, Mary Zealley and Barbara Evans. They called themselves Cottage Sweets with annual visits to Wasaga Beach, parties with their husbands, and a week in Jamaica on their 35th anniversary of friendship. Joan married Harold Wlson on April 19, 1950 and they enjoyed over 68 years together. Joan worked with Bell, Real Estate Broker with Jane McGivern and Tomlinson Real Estate and also taught swim and gym to ladies which she enjoyed. She had a love for all animals, especially dogs and horses. In retirement, Joan enjoyed summers at their Muskoka cottage, the R.C.Y.C. and she and Harold traveled to Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean, California and enjoyed time in Mexico up until her 93rd year! She loved spending time with her Grandchildren and Great Grands, particularly in Muskoka. We are thankful to the staff of North York General Hospital who gave Joan wonderful care in her last days. Her funny sense of humour, gentle heart, and love for her family will never be forgotten.
