Joan Marie Nicol
July 8th, 1933 - August 14, 2025

Joan was a free-spirited, loyal, and confident individual who touched the lives of everyone she met. As a wife to Frank for 52 years, loving mother to Pamela (Ken) Schultz, and Graham (Voila) Nicol, devoted grandmother and nana to Victoria (Aaron) Lashley, T.J. (Julia) Nicol, and Nana to Emily (Collan) Widdifield, G.G. Joan to Aubree and Mason Lashley, Joan was one to inspire those around her to embrace and follow their inner passions.
Her love for art, golf, and the cottage was contagious. She cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. Joan’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, and her memory will continue to inspire others to live life to the fullest. Joan’s career in the arts was marked by her work as an interior decorator and her roles as founding director of the Merton Art Gallery and the John B. Aird Gallery.

Donations in Joan's name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or North York General Hospital's 6 West Cardiac Floor.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of this amazing lady. She was very accomplished, lived a very full life and was enriching to her family and friends. She was an inspiration and will be missed by all. My thoughts are with the family.

Joan was a very important part of my teenage years. I spent many evenings, weekends and summers with the Nicol's at their North York home and Haliburton cottage. I will always remember Joan as a generous and loving mom, with a strong passion for the Arts and Interior Design. Thinking of her family at this difficult time. May loving memories help to ease your pain.
