Joan Frances Gilchrist

November 15, 1947 -  August 25, 2025

Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, August 25, 2025, in her 78th year. Beloved mother to Andrew and Ryan, and loving mother-in-law to Marta and Deb. Cherished Nan to her grandchildren Iain, Anja, and Beau. Joan was predeceased by her brothers Donald (Nolan) and John (Nolan), her parents John (Nolan) and Frances (Nolan), and by her partner Tom (Spagnolo). Born in Toronto, Joan grew up in the city’s east end, where she lived for much of her life. She built a successful career as a Title Searcher, working for both law firms and municipalities, and was admired for her professionalism, dedication, and the lasting friendships she formed. In retirement, Joan opened her home to international students from around the world, embracing their cultures while warmly sharing her own. She found joy in gardening, music, cooking, and many spirited games of Scrabble with friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Guild Inn Estate (201 Guildwood Pkwy, Scarborough) on Sunday, September 21st, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I met Joannie when she a very young teenager. She grew into an amazing snd beautiful woman with a vibrant and exuberant love of life. She had a magnetic personality which was evidenced by the vast friendships she maintained throughout her life. Joannie was my most elegant friend. Her loss is shared by so many. She will be dearly and deeply missed. Rest in peace beautiful lady. ❤️

Joan and I met when we were 10 we have had 67
Years of Friendship she was a Bridesmaid at our wedding Joanie was one of the Funniest people I know there was always laughter every time we talked and every time we were together she was also so caring and was always there if you needed her life will not be the same without her I will miss her dearly , please rest in peace my Friend and (SW) you will always be in my thoughts ❤️

I’ve known Aunt Joanie for as long as I can remember—she was one of my mom’s closest friends, and over the years, she became a big part of my life too. We celebrated birthdays together growing up, had countless sleepovers, and shared so many laughs at gatherings and social events.

Aunt Joanie was truly one of my favorite people. I always looked forward to seeing her. She had a fun-loving spirit, a great sense of humor, and a heart of gold. Her presence lit up every room, and her kindness touched everyone who knew her.

Our two daughters, now 26 and 22, loved Aunt Joanie as well. They always looked forward to seeing her when she came to visit my parents during her annual girls' weekends. It meant so much to see that connection continue across generations.

I always enjoyed our chats—she was such a good listener, with an understanding nature that made you feel instantly at ease. I will truly miss her, and I’ll always be grateful for the memories we shared....Love you Aunt Joanie xoxo

I lived across the street from the Nolans on Jones Avenue in the 1950s. Had many a dinner at the Nolans' table. Although we didn't see each other we always touched base over the years. Joanie will be missed.
