In memory of

Joachim Hans Reigber

November 1, 1939 -  October 17, 2024

Joachim Reigber passed away peacefully on October 17th, 2024 at Providence Hospital in Scarborough, Ontario. We would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Scarborough Birchmount and Providence Hospitals for their guidance and support.

Joachim was a loving husband to his wife of 60 years Anne Marie (nee Fernandes), devoted dad to his sons Richard (Shelagh) and Michael (Luisa) and proud Opa to Jeremy (Alex), Rachel (Rhys), Aidan, Lauren, and Christian. He was a loving brother to Werner (Dorchen) in Germany and uncle to many nephews and nieces in Germany, Guyana, Canada and the United States.

Born in Germany, Joachim immigrated to Canada in 1961 by himself without knowing any English. He was a trade painter and eventually joined General Motors in Oshawa. He then became a partner with a friend’s window cleaning business through the 1970’s. In 1980 he moved back to General Motors where he retired 20 years later.

Joachim spent much of his spare time enjoying nature and was an avid gardener. He would grow fruits & vegetables and have enough to share with family and friends. He also spent time giving through the Guyana Christian Charities where he and his wife were founding members.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Guyana Christian Charities would be appreciated.

Mario Gomes (close friend of Richard and friend of the family)

Entered October 20, 2024 from Los Angeles

I met Richard at St. Lawrence Catholic School when I was 9 years old in 1975 and we have been close friends ever since. I met the whole family that year and have always felt welcomed and accepted by them. I learned a lot of life lessons from him and always felt grateful that he bought those ATVs and he took me with Richard and Mike to have some fun on several occasions. I always appreciated his frankness and down to earth simplicity. He was interested in hard work, integrity and taking care of his family. He is loved by many and will be missed by many and he made a very positive impact with his life. May in rest in peace. Mario & Michele Gomes
