In memory of
Jānis Apse
December 15, 1939 -
July 17, 2023
In loving memory of Jānis (Jan), a man whose character and actions became stories told by family and strangers alike. "I know a man who heats his home with the firewood he chops, though he's well past sixty. His family fled the communists during World War Two. He speaks four languages. He was a vet, and now he's a lawyer, but he still goes by Doctor. He has raised two families. He grows his own vegetables, and cans his own jam. He has built walls from large stones, then torn them down, then rebuilt them. He's slowing down now, but he still cares for his wife."
Sadly, we are feeling the loss of this man, who passed away on July 17, 2023. He is predeceased by his wife, Inta Apse. Jānis will be missed by his brother, Peteris, and his sister, Silvija Janušonis, as well as his children, Krista, Lauris, Martin and Anna, and his grandchildren, Mia, Alex, Jānis, Aksels, Blake and Averie, and by many other friends and relatives. Janis exemplified a rare and admirable combination of toughness and warmth. Though he appeared fierce at times, he willingly shared his protectiveness, kindness and unwavering loyalty with those close to him. Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of Jānis and Inta Apse on September 9, at 1 p.m.at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. followed by a memorial reception.
