In memory of

Jerzy “Jurek” Krzysztof Czajkowski

August 10, 1946 -  May 6, 2021

Jerzy Czajkowski passed away peacefully on May 6th, 2021 after a long illness with his family by his side. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 48 years, Anna, his daughters, Kasia and Maya, his nephews, Hubert and Alan, and many family members and friends in Canada, Poland, France and Australia. He was predeceased by his brother, Andrzej, and his parents, Jan and Kazimiera.

Jerzy was a proud mechanical and nuclear engineer who spent most of his career at Ontario Power Generation and was a familiar presence at the Darlington, Pickering and Bruce nuclear power plants. He spent the last part of his career running his own consulting company. He had an outsized personality, a great sense of humour, a knack for storytelling and joking, and was an avid follower of news and politics.
Jerzy was an excellent chef and liked hosting friends with Anna in their downtown Toronto home.

He enjoyed playing bridge, participating in sports especially volleyball, skiing and windsurfing, attending movies, theatre, ballet and opera, and loved family dinners at home. He was a jack of all trades and very handy with fixing things around the house.

Jerzy travelled extensively with Anna over the years, visiting family, sightseeing and hiking in many parts of the world. He particularly enjoyed wandering the streets of Paris and eating steak tartare, mussels and macaroons. Jerzy was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and mushroom picking at Kartuzy Lodge near Barry’s Bay, Ontario.

The family wishes to thank Dr. A. Finelli, Dr. N. Fallah-Rad and Dr. S. Banerjee and their medical teams at Princess Margaret Hospital, as well as Dr. M. Melnitzer and her team at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care at Mount Sinai Hospital, for their care, compassion and comfort.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will be held.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date once it is safe to gather together. To honour Jerzy, please consider donating to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

Dear Ania, Kasia and Maya,

Please accept our deepest condolences and words of sympathy at this difficult time.

Jurek was a wonderful friend for over 20 years! We are grateful for the wonderful memories of the most beautiful moments in our life we spent with him and with Ania, mainly skiing and traveling to exotic countries.

We will miss him tremendously but he will always remain in our hearts and memory, and we may hear his voice whispering the verses of this famous poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.
