In memory of

Janet Doris Singleton

February 27, 1919 -  August 3, 2019

Janet Doris Singleton
1919 - 2019
With family members by her side, sadly after reaching her long time goal of enjoying a full 100 years of life, our Mom passed at Lakeridge Health hospital, Ajax / Pickering, on August 3, 2019.
After a diagnosis of congestive heart failure over 1 1/2 years before that, and 2 months in the same hospital she told us she was "going to beat this" and she did. Mom returned to her beloved condominium for the rest of her days with only minor help from professional caregivers.
She was the loving wife of William Singleton, 1915 - 1997 who we lost to Alzheimer's after sharing the same condominium for a brief period.
Mom is survived by: sons Glen, Bruce, Don, and daughter Mary; grandchildren Carrie, Leah, Kevin, and Christopher; great grandchildren Bret, Mackenzie, and Madeline. She survived all members of her own immediate family.
Always giving so much of herself to both family and several charities and organizations for most of that century, she will be missed by many.
There will be a celebration of her life for relatives and friends in the recreation facility of her condo building.
Our sincere Thank You to all who have expressed their condolences.
If you wish to express a few thoughts or memories about Mom, please sign the guestbook on this site where you will have an opportunity to do so.

The first day we were all pretty shattered Mom. The next day I broke down the first time someone asked how you were doing in the hospital. Each day gets a little better but you will never leave my heart. There you have a place once more beside Dad. We will be celebrating every one of your 100 years at a gathering of your friends, relatives, and neighbours. I know you will be there with all of us. Look forward to it.

As a child, time with Grandma & Grandpa was my everything. Spending summer weeks with them swimming, bowling with their league, walks around Nantyr and trips to the library. She never turned down a trip to the beach with us or a game of Old Maids. She made the very best bedtime tea and toast every single night for us.
Christmases spent with her were extra special. Knowing how early Grandma and Grandpa woke up to arrive at our place somewhere between Santa’s visit and us eager kids waking up, made me aware of how much her family meant to her. The stockings and gifts, but especially the time she took to be with us was always so wonderful.
Over those years, I watched her interact with so many people and always with a smile and a laugh. I admired her. Her laugh made me happy. Her kindness filled my heart. Her smile hugged me. Her hugs made me feel adored. I will forever love her and miss her always. XOXO Grandma, I hope you knew.

Always so positive and upbeat. A great roll model to her family and they were great with her. She will be missed by many.

Hey Grandma. You said you'd hold out for 100 and you did! That's a feat that not many can claim to have achieved. I'm glad to see you were able to swim in Don's lake one last time. You said how much you wanted to do that and it really looked like you had a lot fun. I'll miss our catch-up phone calls and seeing you in your walker, scotch in hand, having a great time.

Everyone here is grieving in their own way but at the same time, we all can look back at any moment in time and reminisce about your cheery persona. There was no negative bone in your body which makes every memory something to cherish.

I miss you grandma and I will try to pay forward that unrelenting positive attitude.
