Passed away peacefully, on October 29, 2017 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, with her daughters and husband by her side, after a five year battle with cancer. Jane’s strength, tenacity, courage and spirit never faltered, even from her first diagnosis in 2012. Loving wife and best friend of John for over 33 years. Adored mom of Jessica(Ben), Courtney(Robert) and Brooke(Aaron). Cherished Nana of Charlie and Georgia. Loving sister to her brother Mike. Jane will be dearly missed by her in-laws John and Frances, brothers in laws Jim(Pauline) and Paul(Anne), as well as by many other relatives, colleagues and friends. The Gatens family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff of the Palliative Care Team on 4F for the professionalism and attention shown to Jane and her family- words cannot express.Visitation will take place at THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE on Friday, November 3,2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, on Saturday November 4 from 10 am until time of Funeral Service in the Great Hall at 11 am. Interment to follow. Donations will be accepted for the Durham Regional Cancer Centre- Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

I worked with Jane for years. She always kept us smiling. She was like an at work mom for a lot of us. She taught me a lot about love and family. I told her in high regard as one of the most amazing woman on earth. My heart goes out to her family. She will always be a part of all the lives she touched because her heart was that with pure honesty.
