In memory of

James Stanley Walker

May 21, 1963 -  December 14, 2022

James Stanley Walker loving husband and dedicated father of two, passed away suddenly in his sleep Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the age of 59. The family is devastated by his death.

James is survived by his cherished wife, Odette, (nee Sousa) and precious children Emma and Daniel. He was preceded in death by his parents Patricia Mae Walker and James Kingsley Walker. He is mourned by his sister Cindy Marr (Dave) and nieces Erika and Emily Marr.
He will be missed by countless other loved ones.

Anyone who knows Jim knew the three things most dear to his heart are Family, Pets & Sports.

Meeting and marrying Odette was the highlight of Jim’s life. As a devoted father and husband, his family was his everything. Jim was an unabashedly proud dad. He found so much joy watching Emma perform theatre and flying trapeze and cheering on Daniel playing hockey and soccer. Nothing was more important to Jim than living in the moment and creating memories. Jim was the life of the party and always the loudest. The family enjoyed visits to their vacation home in Florida and travelling with family and friends.

Jim’s love of animals eventually grew to become a key aspect of his life – and developed into a successful career. His passion for business is reflected by his journey from franchisee to acquisition of stores to growing the business, along with his two partners, into one of Canada’s most respected pet supply companies.

Highly principled and exceptionally Community minded Jim campaigned for Toronto City Councillor in 2000. Some of the ways he demonstrated his generosity beyond his family and friends was through his philanthropic endeavors including creating The Global Pets & Animals Foundation and championing Odette’s Team Pretty in Pink. Jim was also a long-time volunteer and supporter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Raised in North York, Jim was a proud graduate of King’s University College, The University of Western Ontario, BAH 1986. He was an accomplished athlete and played hockey for UWO and the London Junior Knights. A lifelong Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan, family and friends would often witness Jim toss his Leaf’s cap in the trash at the end of the season, only to buy a brand new one the next. As many of you know, anyone entering Jim’s home was greeted by sports on the TV at full volume.

The family thanks you for your support and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers we would like to honour Jim’s memory through donations to the charity he founded, The Global Pet & Animal Foundation.

As Jim and Odette’s next door neighbours, our family was very saddened to learn of Jim’s passing. We have fond memories of Jim, with whom we often chatted over the hedge or as he walked Max past our house. As to our most vivid recent memory, what could top his gruff and guttural shouting at the woodpecker attempting to eat the stucco off his home just a few weeks ago? We thought it was a madman lurking in the backyard. Anyway Jim, here’s hoping heaven is woodpecker free!

There are no words to understand why this happened and how Odette and the children can say goodbye to the love of their life. I pray that you will surrounded by the love of family and friends to comfort you. You are in our thoughts each day.
