In memory of
James Sik Kwan So
November 12, 1933 -
February 1, 2021
James So was born in Yang Gong Sing, China and later lived in Hong Kong, Reading, England where he studied nursing, and Toronto, Canada where he lived for over 50 years. James was married to Sui-King So for 61 years and had six children. To raise their large family, they worked hard and had quite a variety of jobs. James worked as a tailor, substitute teacher, taxi driver, silver engraver, elder care support worker, orderly, first aid attendant and for many years he was a nurse's aide in a hostel for homeless men where he later took on a supervisory role. James took great pride in having a large family which includes 5 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, 4 great-granddaughters, and 6 great-grandsons who called him Grandpa So or Big Poppi. They remember his storytelling and jokes which they didn't always understand but found funny, playing soccer inside the house with him, that he went to their sports events to support them, and how he paraded them proudly at dim sum restaurants to meet the staff and friends. James had wanderlust and loved to travel internationally and did many road trips in Canada and the US. His favourite place was Hong Kong. He liked the Rolling Stones, but he loved the Beatles. He enjoyed live hockey and baseball games and proudly had a ball land at his feet at a Blue Jays game. He liked his sugar with a bit of coffee or tea and a lot of milk. He loved french fries, ice-cream, and sweet and sour pork. When he could no longer drive, he would ride the subway and buses and wander around different parts of Toronto almost daily. He was chatty and would have stories for anyone who would listen and although the stories didn't always make sense, they were his to tell. James has gone to be with his wife Sui-King and his Lord Jesus. He will be fondly remembered by his children Lilian, David (Grace), Janet, Jane, Gordon (Stephanie), and Anne (Kief), his grandchildren Jonathan (Jennifer), Nancy (Steve), Katie (Todd), Jordan (Melissa), Anita (Kyle), Brittany (Chad), and Adrianna (Matt), and his great grandchildren Emma, Izzy, Beka, Micah, Benji, Levi, James, Cooper, Charlotte, and Justin.
