HENDERSON, James Robert Peter “9”

After two years and courageously fought battle, James passed away at Sick Kids Hospital, surrounded by his loving family on September 2, 2019 at the age of 5.Adored and precious son of Lee Ann and Sam. Beloved brother of Jesse and Nathan. James will be dearly missed by his many loving grandparents, extended family and friends. Those who knew James will fondly remember him as a “champion bottle flipper and Hot Wheels connoisseur”. James always had a smile on his face and would give “two thumbs up” for the many procedures and treatments. The family feels very comforted that his very short life has touched so many from around the globe-he will never be forgotten. Friends may call at THORNTON CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, (South of Taunton Road and off of Dryden Blvd, 905-579-6787) on Wednesday September 11, 2019 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm and on Thursday September 12 from 10 am until time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11 am. Donations to Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Sending my most sincere condolences to everyone in James family, especially his parents, brothers and extended family. I am one of many who James certainly touched deeply. He touched me in a way that is difficult for me to put into words. I must keep my faith that God was calling him, for reasons I was not meant to understand. I truly believe we have another angel and I am glad he was so loved for the short life he had on earth. I won't forget you James. May you rest in paradise, free of pain and patiently wait for loved ones to be reunited with you again one day. I hope you teach those in heaven how to Ace play "Hot Wheels"!

From the moment I met him he immediately had a place in my heart, his loving way was warm and loving. He always had a smile on his face and loved showing off his bottle flipping talent and he was very good at this task. We never got to go on our date to his very special place but each time I go in there I will think of him. You will always be in my heart, taken from his family far too early. ❤️❤️

At a very early age, perhaps fresh out into this world he would have melted your heart with his shine... at least with everyone except his hairy scary grampy(thanks Nathan).
It would take a good hour into any visit before he'd start to come anywhere near me.
As a toddler, upon arrivals he would beam when he would see my wife, ball his face up, hit the tippy-toes and scream off to mom or dad on the sight of me coming behind her. This would even happen while on speaker phone if he heard my voice.
We had many a giggles about it.
What I learned by the age of about 18 months was that if I had a Hot~Wheels in my pocket I would get a smile that would melt solid stone. This love for cars continued. At 3 not long before he was first sick he was taken to a car show, surrounded by the car owners he pointed to a Chevy Nomad and called it for what it was shocking all around him .. including mom and dad -- he couldn't read more than a couple words.
After he got sick, I work close to the hospital and would go as often as I possibly could. Each day on my lunch I would see him and he would throw his arm and blanket over his eyes and make that noise. But I would come armed with a Hot~Wheels or two or five in my pocket and I'd always get that smile.
His father would pass him these cars and without knowledge or the real ability to read the car name on the bottom he would call them out one by one and get them right on a record basis. As word of his love spread throughout friends and family we did indeed make it rain Hot~Wheels...
But nothing like what was about to come.
Sometime last spring an amazing man Jeff Crawford and his pack of amazing lovable car weirdos with this wonderful charity came out of no where.
Someone whispered James name into Jeff's ear mentioned that he loved cars and Hot~Wheels. Once they met him, his sparkle, his love potion #9 left the impression that I so proudly got to watch James pass all around the world.

Thank You Fenders Family for making a little gearhead's twinkle shine a little brighter.
