In memory of

James McKinnon

December 13, 1950 -  August 9, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of James (Jim) McKinnon on August 9, 2025, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, with his loving family by his side. He was 74.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jim immigrated to Canada at the age of 6, where he built a full and meaningful life. He enjoyed a long and successful career in financial planning, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his integrity and dedication.

A proud Freemason, Jim held strong values of community, tradition, and service.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was an avid sailor, finding great joy and peace on the water. His passion for sailing was matched only by the love he held for his family.

Jim also had a deep and lifelong love of music. A talented self-taught musician, he found great pleasure in playing both the guitar and drums. Whether jamming with friends or playing along to his favourite songs at home, music brought him joy, energy, and connection. His appreciation for rhythm and melody was a constant thread throughout his life and a passion he readily shared with those around him.

Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Melinda Hamilton and his sisters, Bonnie McKinnon and Martha McKinnon. He is survived by his sister Ellen McKinnon and brother George McKinnon (Bonnie). He will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews: Jamie McKinnon (Dana), Darren Gough (Amanda), David McKinnon, Derek Gough, Melissa McKinnon (Tim), Darryl McKinnon, Brent Gough (Carly), and Tierney Robertson. He is also survived by his best friend and lifelong partner Vicki Samson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto, Ontario, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Jim’s legacy of kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Your passing has left a huge hole in my heart, but I’m a better person for knowing you. We had many years of fun together and you were the bravest and most courageous person I could ever hope to meet as you overcame so many adversities in your life and rarely if ever complained. Rest in peace now, dear Jim, as you have suffered enough, and may you be reunited with your loved ones who went before you. Love you.❤️

I got to know WBro. McKinnon shortly, but he's been impactful on my masonic career. He was affable, a brother who was ready to share his life experiences. I wish I was able to spend more time with him, but that couldn't happen. I believe he'll look down from the GLA, guide and guard his brethren through our masonic journey. We share the joy of having you and the pain of losing you.
May your gentle soul rest peacefully in the bosom of the GAOTU.
