James “Jimmy” Bartzis
May 10, 1936 – September 26, 2025
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James “Jimmy” Bartzis on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the young age of 89. Surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and his siblings.
Jimmy was predeceased by his beloved parents, Christos and Georgina. He was the proud and devoted father of Georgina, Chris (Maria), Nick (Karen), and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Edward). His greatest joy was found in his role as Papou to his cherished grandchildren: Ariana, Christopher, Zoe, Zack, and Dimitri.
Born in Krines, Corinthos. Greece, Jimmy, like many of his generation, immigrated to Canada after the war with little more than determination and a dream. Together with his wife, he worked tirelessly to build a life for his family and, in 1968, they established a clothing business that continues to thrive to this day—a true testament to their hard work and perseverance.
Jimmy had a deep love of the outdoors, often spending countless hours in fields, streams and lakes. He was also an accomplished cook who took pride in creating dishes from many cultures, always adding his own personal touch. His kitchen was a place of warmth and welcome—no one ever left his home hungry.
A devoted father, Jimmy was ever-present in his children’s lives, guiding them with wisdom and instilling the values that helped them carve their own paths to success. He treasured time at his summer home in Loutraki, Greece, where he found joy in visiting local markets, tending to his olive orchards, producing exceptional olive oil, and hosting family and friends with his signature hospitality.
Though quiet by nature, Jimmy had a remarkable presence and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him and encountered him.
The family is deeply grateful to the dedicated team at North York General Hospital for their compassionate care during Jimmy’s final hours.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at York Cemetery Chapel, 160 Beecroft Road, North York from 4:00–8:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3125 Bayview Ave at 10:00 a.m. Internment to follow at York Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the Hellenic Home for the Aged, Scarborough..

May his memory be eternal.

Dear Theo Christo and family,
Fran and I send our condolences, prayers and love to you all at this time. Chris, from all your many wonderful memories you shared since you arrived in London ‘93, it was clear that your dad was a special exceptional father and leader of your brilliant extended family- your hero and sage.
Such a sad passing. Take comfort from each other, especially in Dimitri - therein lies the bond.
With all our love, Brian & Frank
