My thoughts are with the immediate family of Uncle Jim. Uncle Jim was such a kind and thoughtful relative.

Jim and Dyanne Gibson my parents were close associates with Uncle Jim and his friendship was important to our family.

I still remember my Mom reminisce about the after life with me one day.

Dyanne’s hope was that we can all meet up in the after life and commence the love we achieved with each other all over again.

God Bless you.

Jim will be remembered the most for loving my mom, Sandra Orr. His kindness and wisdom was always appreciated by my whole family. We all looked forward to our ski days and weekends at Osler Bluff and Weekends in Owen Sound, where dogs and rowdy children were always welcome. I feel blessed to have loved Jim but feel even more blessed by being loved by him. The stars in heaven shine a little brighter with Jim among them. xoxo

I loved all the time I spent in Mt. Forest as a kid riding bikes through town, playing kick the can, ice cream at the dairy. That house was great and then more great memories at the new house in Owen Sound and jumping off the bridge into the water and then the move to the house on Balmy beach and the wonderful family reunions that Uncle Jimmy graciously hosted. Uncle Jimmy definitely was a fun Uncle he always played with us as kids and he was the one that taught me how to ski. First time out he didn’t tel me I had to sit down when the chair lift came, not sure who was more embarrassed when they had to stop the chair lift and get me as there was a little bit of a hill, probably him lol. He was always the master of tickle torture. Lots of great beautiful memories.

I found a newspaper clipping from Dad's University days when he played football for the U of T Med's team. His team, the Senior Meds were playing Vic for the Mulock Cup. This was the 53rd consecutive playing of "the fall intramural classic". Towards the end of the article it read:
"Meds rate their place in this years final on the strength of a system of sheer power plays, with Peller, Cochrane and Finn carrying the ball from scrimmage. Add to this the clever Jimmy Smith, who has been generally acclaimed as the best all-round player in the league this season, and Meds will field a strong, capable team."

He was also a star player on the Meds Hockey, Basketball and Lacrosse teams, and a very good golfer.

Uncle Jim
Uncle Jim Smith was born on the same day as our dad - Jim Gibson - exactly 7 years apart. Jim was our dad’s uncle, over the years they became very dear friends.

Uncle Jim Smith would visit our cabin for ski days as he was a pretty good skier. Jim would bring Sandra Orr for visits. They were a lovely couple. With our parents, the four of them would enjoy some great food, wonderful, wine and lots of laughs, sitting at the dining room table, in front of the fireplace, before retiring, so they could get up early and ski again the next day.

We also remembered that the four of them would reconvene in the summer, play some tennis, have a beverage and swim in the Beaver River and repeat the dinner ritual replacing the fireplace with an outdoor patio and BBQ. Jim was a fun and spirited person.

Uncle Jim was the first person we knew who played hockey into his 60's. We were in awe that someone that incredibly old could still play hockey. Jim always had an incredible sense of adventure and was actively skiing into his 80’s. He was youthful and incredibly active.

Uncle Jim will also be remembered for his hospitality as he hosted many parties, including a couple of family reunions at his home on Balmy Beach Road in Owen Sound. He also escorted our father Jim to a family wedding in New York. He was very kind and thoughtful. (picture at right is Jim Gibson with Jim at Tom and Didi's wedding in upstate New York)

Uncle Jim, you were a wonderful friend to our family and we have many wonderful memories of you.

You are missed!
