In memory of

Jacqueline Wynne Moore (nee Howard)

April 11, 1946 -  June 27, 2022

After a brief, and final battle with cancer, in the comfort of her home, as she had wished, Jackie peacefully followed the calling of the Spirit and went home. Jackie is survived by her son Jeffrey Nicholas Moore, who carries with him her love for fishing, devotion to family, and quiet wisdom. Her daughter-in-law Samantha Moore, who embraces Jackie’s grace to help and care for others. Her grandson Caiden Lock Moore, in whom you can find Jackie’s love of reading and social nature. And her daughter Patti Jean Moore, who carries with her Jackie’s independent spirit and belief that anything can be cured by a long drive with the windows down and music up.

Born in Toronto, Jackie often spoke of her fond memories of growing up in Thornhill. Always finding a sense of self in nature, she spoke of days spent reading in a large tree near her childhood home. At age 6, Jackie decided she would be a physician, and from that moment she dedicated her life to being the best doctor she could be. As it can be imagined, this was not without its challenges for a woman in the 60s and 70s, but Jackie’s determination was a force to be reckoned with.

To help ease the stress of her profession, Jackie turned to music. On weekends, she joined her colleagues as the lead female singer in a rock band, On Call, that performed gigs at weddings and special events. When not performing, Jackie found peace tending to her garden, a pastime that remained her passion throughout her life. Springtime always brought her joy, with the promise of the apple trees blooming and her irises growing. In her last days, Jackie was surrounded by the delicate blooms of her orchids “the girls” as she called them, along with the singing of the birds adorning her garden.

Jackie was a survivor, having fought and beaten cancer in 1987 and again in 1993, she then lived with heart disease for over 25 years. Yet she refused to allow her health to prevent her from traveling across Canada to visit family, attending the Shaw Festival annually, visiting friends at their cottages, or hosting classy bridge luncheons for her friends. As her family begins to navigate the world without our mother, we are humbled by the heartfelt accounts of her life that have been shared with us by her friends and colleagues. They are a testament to our mom, and a reminder of her love, charity, and compassion.

At Jackie’s request, she will be privately laid to rest by her children. We will welcome friends and extended family at a separate gathering which date and location will be announced at a later time.
