Predeceased by his sons Randy and Achim. Adored Opa to Paul, Ruth (Doug), Karen (Allister), Danielle (Roger), and Jesse (Jen). Much loved great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren. The world lost a beautiful man. My Opa, Ivan Bergant at 86 years old lost his fight to Covid19.
We are unable to have a gathering or funeral at this time due to this horrible time in all our lives, so I want to use this platform to speak about him and share my love.
Many of my friends knew my Opa. And called him that, as he and my Oma would accept nothing else. He was a kind, strong, handsome, wise man who showed devotion to his wife every single day. They would have been married 65 years in July. I know that in the end she couldn’t be there with him to hold his hand and be by his side. And that is hurting her so much right now. But he knew she would have been there if she could. And knowing that unconditional love is what allowed him go peacefully to heaven to be with his sons.
He was a wonderful father to my mom. The two of them had a loving and trusting relationship that makes me smile just to think about.
He was a doting grandfather and great-grandfather to his grandchildren, loving each one and our differences. He and I had a special bond. One where we laughed often and shared our sarcastic humour with one another. I can see his smile now as we tease each other during the lightest of times and also to get through the darkest. Being close to my Opa has brought me so much joy in my life and he has taught me so much. I hope he left this life knowing that and that I was so proud to be his granddaughter. My opa was one in a million. A loving, sweet, smart-mouthed caring man. And he will be so missed by everyone that knew him.

I love you Opa.
