In memory of

Irwin Stanley Toop

July 2, 1931 -  May 29, 2024

Irwin Stanley Toop, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in Scarborough, Ontario, at the age of 92. Born on July 2, 1931 in Brockville, Ontario, Irwin was the cherished husband of Joycelyn Audrey Toop (nee Luxton), with whom he shared over 64 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Miles Richard Toop and Catherine Allison (Walter) Broos.

Irwin was predeceased by his parents, Orval Stanley Toop and Harriet Loretta Toop (nee Purcell), and his siblings Robert Lawrence Toop, Norval Ivan Toop, Ronald Glenson Toop, and Marilyn Loretta Toop. He is survived by his grandchildren, Aaron Brandon Keith Toop, Sarah Ashley (Joshua) Broos Montgomery, Tiffany Alexandra Broos, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Irwin outlived his four siblings.

Irwin spent his early years in Smiths Falls, Ontario, alongside his four siblings. At the age of 16, he ventured to Toronto with his older brother Ivan to pursue a career. After various jobs, he found himself in a management position at Canadian Tire, where he worked diligently for 25 years. Always wise with his money, Irwin was able to retire from Canadian Tire at the age of 42. Later realizing he was not content with retirement, Irwin dedicated another 17 years of work at Canada Post.

In 1959, Irwin married the love of his life, Joycelyn Audrey Toop, and together they built a life filled with love, and cherished memories. Irwin was a man of many passions, including fishing, cycling, motorbiking, and spending time at the family cottage on the Upper Rideau near Westport, Ontario which he built after his first retirement at the age of 42. The cottage provided over 40 years of fun, joy and much laughter for the entire Toop family. Irwin had a fondness for classical music, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, old classic movies and a notorious sweet tooth for desserts like apple pie, cake, and ice cream.

Above all, Irwin's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. His love for his family was unparalleled, and he cherished every moment spent together, especially during family reunions at the cottage. He was a blessing to his entire family.

Irwin Stanley Toop lived a full and meaningful life, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. He was known for his hard work, honesty, generosity, and his ever-willing helping hand no matter what time of the day. While his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him. Irwin is now with Jesus, we take comfort knowing that he is at peace, and we look forward to the day when we are reunited with him once again.
