In memory of

Irene & Hubert Yau

It is with great sadness, but also a profound sense of peace, that we announce the passing of our parents Irene and Hubert Yau, within hours of each other, on August 22, 2024.

Irene was born in China in 1947 and Hubert was born in Hong Kong in 1944. They both immigrated to Canada in the late 1960’s, where they met, married in May 1971 and raised a family in Toronto and Mississauga. Irene and Hubert were devoted husband and wife, loving parents to Jennifer (Michael) and Kenneth (Bettina) and loving YehYeh/MahMah to Hannah and Bethany. They are also survived by a loving and supportive extended family of brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and -nephews.

Hubert graduated as an electrical engineer from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and had a long career with the Toronto Public Libraries. Irene completed a Business Certification at West Humber Collegiate Institute and enjoyed a lengthy career in payroll, eventually retiring from the fashion retailer, Comark Inc.

Irene had a life-long love of singing and music in general, which she shared with Hubert. Hubert also had a passion for all things media and technology, including film, movies, photography and computers. Irene also enjoyed many forms of crafting, including sewing, needle work and creating fabric photo album covers.

Irene and Hubert both persevered through many years of Parkinson’s disease, to which they would eventually succumb. And though this weighed over their lives in their last years, they did what they could to ensure this disease did not define them. They lived with hope and joy and cherished every family reunion, visit, card, Zoom and phone call.

Our family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the dedicated team of PSWs who cared for Irene and Hubert over the past several years. Through their loving care, they allowed our parents to live with dignity and a higher quality of life in the last stage of their lives. This incredible group of caregivers have become like family to us and we cannot thank them enough.

Family and Friends will be received at THE SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL CENTRE - MISSISSAUGA, 1535 South Gateway Road on Saturday August 31st, 2024. Visitation from 11:30am to 1pm followed by a Memorial Service at 1pm for those able to attend.

As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson Canada or the Michael J. Fox Foundation are appreciated by the family
