In memory of

John (Ioannis) Kapetaneas

October 9, 1925 -  July 1, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, John Kapetaneas, at the age of 99. He slipped away with his family by his side on July 1st, 2025, at the Hellenic Home for the Aged in Toronto.

He leaves behind his 3 children Nicholas, Aggeliki (Peter) and Dimitra (John). He will be deeply missed by his 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren: Mike (Angela), Alex (Natalie), Mary (Peter), Sophia (Alberto), Vicki (Michael), Antigone (Josh), Athena, Jonathan, Angelika, Lia, Mila and Sophia.

John was born in Mystras, Greece on the 9th of October 1925 to Nicholas and Dimitra Kapetaneas. He was the third born of 10 children. He married his sweetheart Maria Kapetaneas and together with their three children, they lived in Mystras, Greece until 1963 when they emigrated to Canada.

John cherished time with his family. He loved traveling to Greece to visit Mystras where he enjoyed tending to his olive trees and catching up with old friends. His family will tell you that he made the best olives and he passed down the recipes to them. He was known for his incredible voice and many will recall him singing at every occasion. He was truly the life of the party! John was proud of his roots and wanted his children and grandchildren to also embrace their heritage.

Farewell dearest father and cherished grandfather.

Should you wish to make a donation in John’s name, please consider the Hellenic Home for the Aged in Toronto, where John was cared for in the last year of his life.
