(nee Birnis)
Born June 13, 1924 in Riga, Latvia, passed away July 11, 2018 in Toronto. Predeceased by her husband Reinholds Veinbergs in 1965. Will be missed by daughter Dace (Alar), son Martin (Laila) and grandchildren Emmi (Travis), Vija, Lukas, Maija and Reinis. Inga fled Latvia together with her family in advance of the invading Soviet army in 1944 and spent years in occupied Berlin, Displaced Persons camps in Germany and England before coming to Canada in 1951. Inga had a lifelong passion for music and opera in particular. She studied with the renowned Latvian singer Mariss Vetra, received and ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music and subsequently established a piano studio in Scarborough, teaching for many years until her retirement. She was instrumental in creating the Mariss Vetra Scholarship at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and served for many years on the board of the Toronto Latvian Association. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre and the Museum of the Occupation in Latvia.

"My auntie from so many generations back, that I cannot explain it." Loved Inge. Inge loved beauty. She would play with my rings. A number of months ago, she looked up at the flowers on the table and said very clearly: "Those are beautiful." May she rest in beauty and peace.

Dear Dace......A beautiful service to honour your sweet mom. Lots of nice memories, when I would occasionally drive Zigrida home and I would chat with your mom . Beautiful gardens and a home filled with music and a few , much loved cats! Take care.
