In memory of

Ines Howe

July 24, 1936 -  September 25, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved mom, grandmother, and friend, Ines Howe, who passed away suddenly following complications from heart surgery.
Ines was full of kindness and warmth. She had a caring heart and gift for friendship. She was truly an inspiration—someone who built connections with ease through her thoughtfulness toward others. She made the extra effort and always strengthened community ties: with family, with fellow teachers, classmates, church and volunteer groups, and through her love of bridge. Her ability to bring people together was one of her greatest gifts.
She is reunited with her husband of 52 years, Raymond, and leaves behind her children, Sabrina (Jean-François) and Dan (Eva), and her five adoring grandchildren Jessica, Anthony, Kiana, Sydney, and Christophe, who were her pride and joy. She is also preceded by her big sister Evelyn (Lembit) with whom she was very close. She was the proud Aunt of Linda (Michael), Arthur (Michelle), Pam, Paul and all the Howe cousins, and loving Great Aunt to Jacquie, Ted, Christine, Atlas, and Dylan, and happy Great, Great Aunt to Zak, Becca, and Charlize.
She was born in Estonia moved to Berlin, where her mother was from, as a young girl. Her father was caught up in the round up of Jews and was executed when she was just 4 years old. Her birth in Estonia helped her and her sister escape being caught up as well.
Following the war, at just 17, she followed her big sister to Canada along with her mother. Here, a whole new chapter of her life began. She mastered a new language, went to university and became a primary school French teacher where she taught for many years at schools including Armour Heights PS and Summit Heights PS.

No words can express how much we'll miss you Mom. My biggest comfort is knowing you lived to your last days on your own terms and that you will forever live in my heart and in the hearts of the countless people your life has touched. Rest in peace.

So sorry for your loss.

Ines has a special place in our hearts and will always be remembered with love.

We loved spending time with her on her visits to Whistler. She was a remarkable woman who had an incredible ability to fully focus on you and listen to what you had to say, offer kind and sage advice, enjoy and tell a good joke, and play a wicked game of cards! That cheshire smile and twinkle in her eyes will never be forgotten.

Her love for her family and for enjoying life was always so clear. Her legacy lives on in you, her children, and her grandchildren.

Our sincere condolences to you all 💕

I met Ines in 1958 at Toronto Teachers College and have enjoyed our friendship ever since. She was full of life, always interested, always busy and very strong. Ines made friends easily and kept them. She will be missed by so many people. She was blessed with a happy growing family. My sympathy goes out to all of them.

It was with much sadness that I received the news of Ines’ passing. We worked together for five years at Summit Hts. P.S. where she taught French and I was the principal. I remember Ines as a kind, generous and very thoughtful person who demonstrated an authentic enjoyment and pride in her work and genuine enthusiasm for her students. She enjoyed her interactions with students and showed a real interest in teaching the French language and French culture to her students. She was respected by her students, their parents and her colleagues … a dedicated professional with a wonderful sense of humour. Always smiling!
My sincerest condolences to her children and grandchildren. Undoubtedly, she will be missed by those who knew her and loved her.
