In memory of

Ilme Regina

March 24, 1928 -  September 23, 2017

Ilme (Mäe) Regina, BA (Hons), BLS, MA

With heavy sadness we announce that Ilme Regina, in her 90th year, has gone to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Born March 24, 1928 in Tallinn, Estonia, she left us peacefully on September 23rd, 2017, after a brief illness, surrounded and survived by her loving family. Deeply missed and forever loved by her children Lucy Haniak (Steve) of Toronto, Tom Regina (Lauren) of Haliburton, Julie Grimaldi (Frank) of Severn, granddaughters Rachel Regina (Kyle) and Jocelyn Regina Walker (Douglas), and grandsons Leo Regina and Justyn Grimaldi. Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sister Hille Novak of San Francisco. Predeceased by beloved parents August and Vilve Mäe.
With an ever-present smile, sparkling wit, and brilliant sense of humour, our Mother and Nana taught us love, compassion, kindness, and gratitude. Gentle and caring of all she knew and met, her generosity of spirit will be long remembered.
In 1944, at the age of 16, Ilme Regina and her family narrowly escaped from their homeland of Estonia, eventually relocating to live with relatives in Sweden at the end of WWII. In 1948, she immigrated to Canada where she married Peter Regina (predeceased). They settled in Toronto and Port Credit to raise their family through the 1950s and ‘60s.
A linguist and specialty librarian, Ilme Regina was a strong advocate for life-long learning and helping those in need. She especially loved reading and studying Scriptures and lived her life to glorify Lord Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, North York General Hospital, or a charity of personal choosing.

Reception to be held on-site immediately following the remembrance service on Monday, October 2nd. Private family interment to occur at a later time.

I am saddened to hear of Ilma's death. Although I had not met her, I have heard of what an intelligent and kind person she was and what a good life she lived, and one sees her inner beauty in the lovely photograph that accompanies the obituary. My thoughts are with all the family. I'm sure the memory of her remarkable spirit will support you in your grief. Clearly, hers is a life to be celebrated.
Best wishes,
Carol

Deepest condolences.
At the age of 90, your mother lived a truly long life; but no matter the years, her passing will undoubtedly create a large hole that will take a long time to fill. Fill it with memories of good times & laughter. You've all been blessed with so many years together. ❤️
