It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Lady Ida (Ivy) Fernella Chatham, who departed this earthly life suddenly on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Born in Antigua and Barbuda to Beatrice Braithwaite of New Street and John Burleigh of English Harbour, Ida was a proud daughter of the Caribbean. She met and married the love of her life, Christopher Chatham, in 1951, and together they raised ten children in a home filled with love, faith, and strength.
Ida served the Government of Antigua and Barbuda faithfully for over 23 years as a caretaker at Ottos Primary School. Upon her retirement in 1990, she embraced travel and eventually migrated to Canada in 1992, where she lived until her passing.
A woman of unwavering faith, Ida accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour in 1975. She was a devoted member of Ebenezer Methodist Church in Antigua, serving as a class leader, Circuit Council member, Secretary and President of the Women’s League. In Canada, she continued her ministry at Bramalea Free Methodist Church, where she was active in the women’s ministry and volunteered generously in various capacities.
Ida was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Christopher Chatham, and her cherished daughter Jacqueline Chatham.
She leaves to cherish her memory:

• Grandchildren: 35
• Great-grandchildren: 26
• Daughters-in-law: Annette Chatham, Baverly Chatham, Eugenia Knight
• Sons-in-law: Eustace Davis, Noel Peters
