In memory of

Hung Kim Truong

September 7, 1942 -  March 25, 2023

A much-loved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully in the evening of March 25th, 2023.

Born in September 1942, Hung soon left his birthplace, Teochew (China), in the arms of his mother, immigrating to Hai Phong (northern Vietnam) where they stayed for a part of his early childhood. The peaceful settlement of the Chinese immigrants in Hai Phong did not last long. Wars erupted. Hung lost his father when he was so young to even have any lasting memory about him.

In 1954, Vietnam was divided into two states. Hung, then a brother with two younger siblings, soon found himself on another emigration to Saigon city in the southern state. Although a very young boy, being the oldest child in the family, Hung helped his mother make a living by selling snacks, newspapers along railroads, streets, and even bridges where fighting between different government forces broke out at times.

Hung was a very curious boy. School was not what his mother could afford. Remarkably, he learned to read and write on any slight opportunity between work. His Chinese calligraphy skill, his detailed memories of classical Chinese literature, and his practical knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine were admired and sought for by many who knew him.

Hung joined a Teochew orchestra group and amazed many with his quick learning of traditional Chinese musical instruments. There, he met a beautiful community actress. In the turbulence of wars, their relationship grew. They got married in 1968, had three daughters and two sons. They walked the same paths of life ever since until Hung’s last settlement in Ontario, Canada in 1996.

Hung’s and his wife’s love and faithful commitment for each other was tested by wars, by hardships of life, and by the 55 years of time to this very moment even when death do them part.

Hung is and will forever be remembered by his wife (Muoi), daughters (Hue, Jessica, Mandy), sons (Chau, Minh), sons-in-law (Cuong, Tai), and daughter-in-law (Hanna), grandchildren (Kevin, Tiffany, Evan, Kenneth, Leon).
