In memory of

Hong Chong

June 10, 1934 -  January 23, 2021

With heavy hearts and much sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Hong Chong, age 86 on January 23, 2021 at 9:10 pm at Michael Garron Hospital from liver cancer. He is the beloved husband of the late Hai (Szeto) Chong and is survived by his son Gordon Chong, daughters Hannah (Chong) Yeung and husband Weng, Helen (Chong) Ngo and husband Paul, grandchildren Christopher Yeung, Melanie Yeung, the late Michael Ngo, Sarah Ngo and Serena Ngo, brothers Yuet Foo and wife Kam Chung, Kenneth and wife Roslyn. He will be greatly missed by his extended family relatives and friends.

Hong was a hardworking simple man. He married Hai Szeto in Hong Kong and came to Canada in 1957. He worked in the laundry and food industries. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He witnessed his beloved Maple Leafs hoist the Stanley Cup in 1967 and faithfully cheered them on every year for another championship. Sadly, this wish did not come true for him. However, he was able to see the Toronto Blue Jays win back-to-back World Series and the Raptors win their first NBA championship. He enjoyed gardening and walking to Eglinton Square Mall for his weekly coffee and lunch get-together with his friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Liver Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the funeral will be held as a private family service. There will be a virtual visitation on February 1, 2021 from 12:15-1:00 pm.

It is time for you to be reuniting with your long life love, Auntie Hai and along with my parents as well up in Heaven now. I will always miss your smile, kindness, chats on the phone, laughter and that special eye brow raising look as well, but mostly your LOVE !!! Go Maple Leaves !!!!

Julie, my children and I are saddened to hear about the passing of Uncle Hong. Any family loss of a family member is a difficult event to experience but having to experience one during these trying times of CoVid must have been extremely challenging. Our condolences.

During occasions of reflections with my sibs, we've all expressed our regrets of the circumstances that have minimized so much the connections between our families. I wished personally that I could have made a better effort to stay connected.

I have special and fond memories of Uncle Hong. I remember Uncle when he returned to Hong Kong to date Aut Hai, taking me out on those dates (roller rinks?) and treating me with those wonderful Wrigley stick gum sticks (especially the yellow ones). I also remember that I was crucial to satisfying Uncle's thirst for our mutually beloved Toronto Maple Leafs by delivering a portable TV to his place of work at Obie Restaurant so that he could follow the Leafs' numerous runs for the Cup.

God Bless Uncle and to his Family
