In memory of

Hok Man Herman Chan 陳学文先生

November 5, 1957 -  November 28, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Hok Man Herman Chan has passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday November 28th, 2025.

Hok Man was born in Hong Kong on November 5th, 1957. He resided in Hong Kong until the age of 12, then lived in Jamaica before deciding to start his new life in Canada after meeting the love of his life after a fateful move to Toronto.

He was a quiet, easy-going guy, living life one day at a time. He did not say much but when he did he brought smiles, joy and a laugh to all who he interacted with.

He dedicated his life to supporting his family by becoming a chef and worked his way up the ranks to become head chef in many Chinese establishments across the city. He worked day and night to perfect his craft and earned high praise amongst his peers at work and from his family and friends at home.

In his down time, he enjoyed watching sports and movies.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Chan and Son, Thomas Chan. He will be dearly missed and remembered by all his extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, we appreciate that any monetary contributions be given to the family.

My elder brother and I chased our childhood in the old days of Hong Kong, with laughter echoing through the maze of our resettlement block and the concrete playground. Though life pulled us apart to two distinct shores, those golden days still remain branded in my heart like an imprint.

Rest in peace now my dear brother. May your new world be finally free of helpless pain and illness.

Hernan was a quiet and wonderful person. In the past several years, I enjoyed our annual CNE with him and Mary. The endless hours of waiting in line for a free gift. Our dinners after CNE and Herman always commented on the quality and taste of the food. He's a chef and knows the difference.
Herman will be dearly missed and my thoughts and prayers are with Mary (my lifetime friend) and Thomas. Rest in peace.
