In memory of

Henry Alex Bursztain

August 7, 1956 -  April 22, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Henry Alex Bursztain on Saturday April 22, 2017 due to complications as a result of a long term battle with diabetes at 60 years young.

Known as Henry to some and Alex to others and hero to all, he was the loving husband and best friend to Mary (Rachel) Hewton for almost 21 years. Dedicated son to Jack and Helen and incredible brother to Barbara (Phil). Super brother-in-law to Janice (Adrian) and Sharon (Mark). Awesome Uncle to Matthew A., Cameron (Leanne), Matt, Ines, David (Amy), Elsie (Brooklyn & Hailey). And as an ardent lover of dogs, we cannot forget Lola and Patch!

Special friend to Irene, Linda, Lucy, Rob (David & Naomi), Pavel, Jan L, Laurie & Fred, Mayda & Ian (Alyssa & Ally).

A kind, outgoing and generous man, he loved his wife, family, knowledge and trivia, the study of history and maps, Star Trek, Napoleon, nature, Halloween and not always in that order! Alex was passionate about life and despite his never-ending health issues; he never gave up and was always the optimist, his positivity inspiring so many.

A visitation will be at PINE HILLS CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough (north of St. Clair Ave. E., 416-267-8229) on Tuesday April 25th from 5:30pm -8:30pm. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11am on Wednesday, April 26th at Pine Hills Funeral Centre. Service officiated by Rabbi Steven Schonblum. Shiva will be held on Thursday and Friday.

Donations would be appreciated in Henry Alex Bursztain’s name at York Region Kidney Disease Program at mackenziehealth.ca.

“Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow and remember me in every tomorrow; remember the joy the laughter and smiles; so dry your eyes and remember me not as I am not but as I used to be; because I will remember you all and look on with a smile; understand in your hearts that I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.”

Alex brought so much joy to so many people. I will always think of him when I look at a map or at Napoleon. I am so sad for all of you.
Go now in peace, in faith and in love. God will go with you each hour of every day.
Hugs xoxo Nanette

My deepest sympathies to Mary, and family. I will always remember Alex as loving, enthusiastic and passionate with a zest for life and a great sense of humour. He will be sorely missed.

Alex was the most courageous man we ever met. He was inspirational to anyone who had the good fortune of meeting and spending time with him. We loved him and so much and considered Alex and Mary family.
Mary, Alex will always be with you and with us all who had the honour of knowing him. May he rest in peace forever.
Love... Linda
