In memory of

Helen Verda DeNike

February 21, 1930 -  October 27, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful Mother Helen on Oct. 27th, 2020, at the age of 90. Predeceased by her devoted husband of 55 years Don (2005). Loving Mother of Doug (Janine), Craig (Kathy), Janet (Robin), Carol (Paul) and Ann (Bruce). Beloved sister of Betty Harding. Grandmother to Shawn, Lindsey (Steve), Emma, Ethan, Matthew and Connor and great Grandmother to Caleb and Kyle.
Special thanks for the excellent care given to our Mom by the dedicated staff at the Newmarket Health Care Centre.
We couldn't have asked for a more selfless, kind Mother who always enjoyed helping others. We will miss her laughter, and over 100 sayings, such as "I'm on my way rejoicing", and "I'll see you in my dreams!" Our Mom was well known for her volunteer services at churches, canvassing for many different charities and as a volunteer coordinator for Meals on Wheels Scarborough. Whenever anyone did good deeds, she always said "you will be rewarded in Heaven", if that's the case, our Mom will be getting a gold star. God, you got a good one! After all her children were able to say goodbye, she left peacefully wearing her lipstick, ready to be greeted with open arms by our Dad. We miss you already Mom!
There will be a small family service held at Trinity Anglican Church Aurora, where donations can be made in her memory, or to a charity of your choice.

Her Journey's Just Begun
By Ellen Brenneman
Don't think of her as gone away
her journey's just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost
and she was loved so much.

Love, Craig & Kathy xoxo

Dear Grandma,

People say that time heals all wounds and that someday the pain will subside, but Grandma I can tell you they must have lied.

I miss you so much. There was a comfortable feeling knowing that you were being taken care of, but now that you are gone I wish I could still see you. Your wise eyes, soft smiles and sense of ease you gave by just being around you. I love you tons and I am missing you already. I hope they have good Wifi in Heaven, so you can read all the nice things people have been saying about you. They are not just words that describe you, but the truth! You were, and are my image of a lady. Be at peace Grandma, see you again one day.

Love,
Shawn

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this most difficult time! Aunt Helen was a lady! Was always there for us when we were growing up! She was a wife, mother, Aunt and grandmother! I will miss her dearly! R.I.P. Aunt Helen! You are with Uncle Don now! That's how it should be! Amen!

Helen, having you as a Mother in Law was a gift. So many memories of your smile, your giggles, your kindness and generosity. Never a mean word spoken, a truly classy lady. You were a role model to all of us. I know that Don is overjoyed to have you back with him, he cherished you so much. Our kids could not have asked for a better grandmother. Thank you for being such a bright light in all of our lives.
P.S. I still won’t take any wooden nickels, don’t worry.
