In memory of

Helen (Eleni) Sourlis

August 7, 1948 -  December 21, 2023

Eleni 'Helen' Sourlis, born on August 7, 1948, departed from this world on December 21, 2023, at the age of 75. She is survived by her four devoted children, Jack, Effie, Tasos, and Niko, as well as her nine cherished grandchildren.

Eleni's story began in Tripoli, Greece, where she spent her early years surrounded by the love of her parents, sister, and brother until she embarked on a new journey to Canada at the age of 16. She began her time in Canada, living with her beloved grandparents, aunts, and uncles. In the year 1966 Eleni found love and a life-long friend in Panagiotis Sourlis. After a short 2 months of courtship, they chose to commit themselves to each other under the sacrament of marriage. Together, as husband and wife, they navigated the twists and turns of life, raising four wonderful children, operating successful restaurants, and creating a lifetime full of cherished memories.

Known for her selflessness, Eleni's love extended far beyond her immediate family. She had a heart that embraced everyone and welcomed all who entered her home with warmth, a big hug, and so much food! Eleni's presence was a shining light in the lives of everyone that knew her. Her gentle and wise nature endeared her to everyone she encountered. In the face of life's challenges, she remained steadfast, offering care and support to those around her.

Eleni was not only a nurturing mother and devoted wife but also the best cook. She created a reputation for her ability to turn ordinary ingredients into extraordinary feasts. Her meals were not just food; they were a way for her to express love.

Beyond her culinary skills, Eleni was a bundle of joy and laughter. She found delight in Greek dancing, and enjoying Greek music, passions that speak to the vibrant spirit of her heritage. Eleni embraced the joy of music and dance with open arms, and left a mark on the hearts of those who danced alongside her.

During the final years of her husband's life, Eleni became his unwavering pillar of strength. As his primary caregiver, she advocated tirelessly for his health and well-being, exemplifying the same devotion and nurturing spirit that defined her relationship with everyone she loved.

In April of 2023, Eleni faced an aggressive cancer diagnosis. This time, she found herself on the receiving end of care, surrounded by the love and support she had freely given throughout her life. In those difficult months, she demonstrated incredible strength and grace, facing her illness with the same unwavering spirit that defined her character.

Eleni 'Helen' Sourlis leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and warmth. Her memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that will remain for generations.

A visitation will be held in her honor at the Greek Orthodox Church of Prophet Elias on Tuesday, January 2nd at 4:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral service will then be held on Wednesday, January 3rd at the Greek Orthodox Church of Prophet Elias at 10:00am with a Macaria to follow at the church at 2:00pm.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
May her memory be eternal.
