In memory of

Harold Whalen

June 18, 1920 -  December 3, 2021

Harold (Harry) Whalen, beloved husband of Brenda Whalen, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at the age of 101 years. In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by his children: David (Wendy), Bob, Gwen Cole (David) and Cynthia (David LeBlanc); his grandchildren: Kim McNeill (Darcy), Paul (Amber), Beth Pollock (Sean), Matthew Cole (Lauren), Ryan Cole (Maggie), Alexander and Adam LeBlanc; and his great-grand children: Caylin, Hazel, Carter, Logan, Nolan, Evan, James, Aiden and Benjamin.

Harry grew up in Newfoundland before immigrating to Toronto, Canada in 1948. He enjoyed over 101 healthy and happy years with a sense of humour and a constant smile on his face. He was an eternal optimist and loved life, living each day to the fullest. He was happiest spending time with his beloved wife of 71 years and his family. Harry was the life of the party up until the day he died, telling jokes, playing euchre, dancing, rollerblading and collecting a bit of everything. Harry was always up for adventure and was notably, at 97 years, the oldest person to complete the CN tower edge walk. A bricklayer by trade, Harry was also a skilled woodworker, and we are all lucky to have many of his creations that we can treasure for years to come.

Although we will all miss his smile and kindness we will know that he is now dancing with the angels and telling jokes to a whole new crowd in heaven.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful and caring doctors and staff at Revera Donway Place and Seniors Health Centre for taking great care of Harry.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either Parkwood United church or the Canadian Cancer Society.

My favourite uncle who always made you happy. He would always pull you aside to tell his newfie jokes and what an amazing memory he had. For many years I wondered where did he find all those jokes only one day finding a newfie joke book left out! We had a good laugh. The wonderful family memories will never go and hanging out at the cottage Saturday's 3pm swims then hamburgers for dinner were the best. Finishing off with a rimoli game was icing on the cake. Uncle Harry you will be missed and we loved you so much.

RIP Harry! We might not remember the jokes you told but you sure did always make everyone laugh! I remember your 90th birthday I was leaving early and you were on the steps putting on your roller blades to rollerblade around you party! Like I said always ways putting a smile on people’s faces ! I’ve never had the opportunity to celebrate the milestones as I have done with you! RIP Happy

To all the family,
I loved when you posted all the wonderful pictures of your Dads adventures. A man truly with a zest for life and love of family. In time the smiles and laughter will return on a life well lived. May his memory be a blessing . Elaine Cole

We always very fondly remember Harry being friendly, outgoing and never at a loss for a joke. I'm sure he will be sorely missed but he himself never missed an opportunity to have a good time.
